I’m pleased to announce my next project, a novel with a working title of ‘The Bezerker’.
Bezerker has been in the works for many years, most of that sitting in the back of my mind, percolating, brewing, one liners, scenes, events, knocking together, falling apart and rebuilding until it got to the point my sub-conscious said, “Ok, time to get serious and write this thing!”
Jack Hamilton is the eponymous Bezerker. He’s a man hiding from his past and using his unique abilities to earn passage on star ships and stay away from the law.
But the past can’t stay hidden, and Jack becomes caught up in a Galactic war of Independence, where his past becomes central to ending the conflict.
Along for the ride is a ship of privateers, from Captain Ulla, a fierce Amazonian warrior who can’t seem to take situations too seriously, pirate raised and muscle clad Fleur Townsend, the 2 meter tall Pioneer known as Rain, and the mysterious Alice Grace who seems to have no personal stakes in the war, yet seems the most committed to its resolution.
It’s a story of loss, and hope, and sacrifice. It’s a story of a man designed for war, who dreams of peace in a Galaxy tearing itself apart.
Right now I am writing the first draft, and as of this post, is ~ 50% complete at 47,000 words. There are about 14 scenes or so still to write and a whole lot of exciting action to come.
Currently I’m writing at least 1,000 words a day, so I aim to have the draft completed by the end of July, ultimately leading to publication at the end of the year or early in 2018. I have not talked to any publishers about this novel yet. In fact I still haven’t decided how to release this novel to the world. Right now my focus is on powering through this creative draft, mixing my plan with organic inspiration to give me a lump of marble I can then chisel down into a final, refined masterpiece.
Stay tuned for more information on the Bezerker across the coming months.
